Unnecessarily Necessary is a set of works comprised of abstract woodblock prints and hand written texts. This work expresses a desolate state of mind and the progression of negativity through thoughts that seem simultaneously isolated yet connected. The prints are inspired by the art of traditional Sumizuri-e woodblock printing, the process of art therapy, as well as the concept of Wabi-sabi.
This work addresses negativity as a necessary evil: only when one acknowledges the existence of negativity instead of denying its presence, are they then able to get over the darkness and move on with a lighter mind and heart. The texts are excerpts taken from writings by the artist herself, hence creating an even more sensitive and personal space between the work and the viewers
